Kazakhstan, 20th Jul 2023, King NewsWire – Alibek Kuantyrov, Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the goals of sustainable development at the ministerial segment of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations on 19 July.
He stressed that since Kazakhstan’s accession to the UN, the country has followed the UN Charter and strives to make a worthy contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda for the period up to 2030.
“All the SDGs are fully consistent with the socio-economic priorities of Kazakhstan. We have taken into consideration the SDGs for our state planning, having also developed more than 260 of our own national indicators in this field,” Kuantyrov noted.
The minister stressed that regional cooperation remains one of the priorities of Kazakhstan, based on the principles of effective partnership and mutual benefit. The country has proposed to open the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in the Kazakh city of Almaty.
Kuantyrov also addressed Kazakhstan’s involvement in addressing climate change sustainability issues.
“International climate agreements and strengthening partnerships are key steps for Kazakhstan to improve and implement effective joint measures. Our National Strategy for Carbon Neutrality 2060 aims to reduce our carbon footprint and benefit from a sustainable strong economy, improved public health and reduced climate risks,” he said.
Today, Kazakhstan continues to develop an inclusive society and infrastructure, addressing systemic problems of inequality, strengthening measures to protect human and children’s rights.
“I am sure that we will continue our fruitful cooperation and achieve our goals on the way to a prosperous future,” Kuantyrov concluded.
